Friday, April 24th, 2009

Do you like to go ice fishing, or maybe you want to try it for the first time? If either of these sounds like you, then you need to know what ice fishing supplies you are going to need.

It is imperative that you take the time to learn all you can about the supplies you will need and how to fish correctly under ice. This will help you get only the supplies you need, instead of trying to get everything at once.

So, what are the ice fishing supplies you will need right from the start? Here are some of the supplies that you have to have if you are going to go ice fishing.

One: Ice fishing rods and reels are important because without them you will not be able to catch any fish.

Two: Baits and hooks are also needed to catch anything.

Three: Ice lines are needed to make sure you can reel in whatever fish you are able to catch.

Four: Ice fishing cleats are also needed so that you can have good traction on the ice; otherwise, you may just end up in the water with the fish.

Five: Apparel is important also because when you are fishing, you will need to be warm or you will never be able to catch anything because you are too cold to fish.

These are not all of the things that you will need, but they are some of the most important things. You have to take time to research and learn all you can before you decide to get any ice fishing supplies.

This will help you only get what you need, so you can enjoy a day of fishing by yourself or with your buddies.

Ice Fishing Huts

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

When you go ice fishing, there are a lot of supplies that you will need to have with you, not only to catch the fish, but also to keep you warm and safe.

This type of fishing can be dangerous because of the extreme cold that you have to deal with. The best way to protect yourself when you fish this way is to get one of the ice fishing huts.

Ice fishing huts will keep you protected against the cold, which is very important because if the temperature is too cold, then you could freeze and end up with all kinds of problems.

There are some important questions you need to ask yourself before you get any of the ice fishing huts. Here are some of the more important questions.

1. Will you be ice fishing by yourself, or will you be doing it with more than one person? This question is important because this will determine the size of the hut that you will get.

2. Does the hut that you are interested in have good circulation? This is important because when you go ice fishing, you are going to need to have a propane heater to help you stay warm.

So, making sure the ice fishing huts have good circulation will help you stay warm and help all the bad things go out the mesh windows.

These are definitely not all of the questions you need to ask yourself before choosing one of the ice fishing huts, but they are the two most important questions.

Take time to look at all of the huts you can find before you choose and do your research because this will help you make an informed decision. Ice fishing can be a lot of fun, but it can also be dangerous; so make your decision wisely.

Ice Fishing Jigs

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

An ice fishing jig is the type of fishing lure used when ice fishing. A jig consists of a lead sinker and a hook which is molded onto it. Also, there’s a ‘body’ located on the shank of the hook.

Jigs are extremely adjustable and can be used in fresh and salt water. The reason for the jigs popularity is its ability to attract a vast array of fish species.

The Head of an Ice Fishing Jig

A jigs head comes in many different colours, shapes and they also all have many different features. However, most jigs have some things in common – such as the round head (although not all, some have coned shaped heads, fish shaped heads, etc).

Jig heads vary in weight, ranging from one sixty fourth of an ounce to one ounce. Jigs can also come with a wide range of patterns and colors. Jig hooks also vary alot. The hook type, the angle of the hook, the color of the hook, and the hooks material all vary.

The Body of an Ice Fishing Jig

Jigs bodies also widely vary. Most jigs however are made from silicon or rubber. They can come in many different shapes and sizes. A few examples of what shapes they resemble are: frog-shape, fish-shape, lizard-shape or some sort of bug-shape.

They are also available in a wide array of colours, ranging from fluorescent yellow to brown! During the summer months, most people use colors that resemble heat such as shades of browns or blue with black hair. Another widely popular body type is a random combination of fur, rubber skirts, feathers, and other materials.
