An ice fishing jig is the type of fishing lure used when ice fishing. A jig consists of a lead sinker and a hook which is molded onto it. Also, there’s a ‘body’ located on the shank of the hook.
Jigs are extremely adjustable and can be used in fresh and salt water. The reason for the jigs popularity is its ability to attract a vast array of fish species.
The Head of an Ice Fishing Jig
A jigs head comes in many different colours, shapes and they also all have many different features. However, most jigs have some things in common – such as the round head (although not all, some have coned shaped heads, fish shaped heads, etc).
Jig heads vary in weight, ranging from one sixty fourth of an ounce to one ounce. Jigs can also come with a wide range of patterns and colors. Jig hooks also vary alot. The hook type, the angle of the hook, the color of the hook, and the hooks material all vary.
The Body of an Ice Fishing Jig
Jigs bodies also widely vary. Most jigs however are made from silicon or rubber. They can come in many different shapes and sizes. A few examples of what shapes they resemble are: frog-shape, fish-shape, lizard-shape or some sort of bug-shape.
They are also available in a wide array of colours, ranging from fluorescent yellow to brown! During the summer months, most people use colors that resemble heat such as shades of browns or blue with black hair. Another widely popular body type is a random combination of fur, rubber skirts, feathers, and other materials.
