Ice Fishing Walleye
Ice Fishing for walleye is growing in
popularity fast, and is regarded as 'new to the scene'. There are
currently alot of magazines/articles popping up which are dedicated
to catching walleye.
The walleye species is very sensitive towards the light,
therefore they tend to be easier to catch at around dawn/dusk. They
also seem to bite alot more at first ice.
Walleye are normally caught through jigging, however tip-ups are
becoming increasingly popular.
When looking to ice fish walleye, the typical chosen tackle
is:
- split shot
- hooked minnow
- slip bobber rig
- open faced spinning reel
- 6 to 8 lb line
- light to medium action rod
You should experiment when ice fishing walleye by trying
different styles of jigging. Start off jigging aggressively, then
slowly decrease down to subtle taps. Usually, you'll find that
something in between the two works.
