Ice Fishing Trout

You're more likely to catch deep water lake trout during the day rather than the night. This is presumably because that's when they can see the best, so they feed more. However, shallow water trouts tend to feed the best during both dusk and dawn.

The majority of deep water trouts are caught using tip-ups, but you need alot of line on the spool to catch them. You should use smelt, suckers or cisco.

You should use a reasonably heavy fishing line - preferably use a 25-30lbs line on your tip-up.

Trout tend to stay at mid-depth during the early season, at sound 50 to 90 feet down. Then later on in the season, they tend to move shallow.

When ice fishing for trout, alot of anglers favour the 'airplane' jig. The 'airplane' jig covers a huge amount of water as when it's jigged it creates the right amount of movement that seems to attract lake trout really well.
