Ice Fishing Northern Pike
|
One of the most exciting species to target when
ice fishing is Northern Pike.
Northern Pike are very aggressive, and will take
nearly everything you offer them, even including ice
transducers. |

Using tip-ups is the prefered method when ice
fishing for Northen Pike amongst most anglers. However, jigging is
also a viable method.
Unfortunately, Northern Pike don't tend to stay in groups, so
just because you've caught one, it doesn't mean there will be more
near. To start with, start fishing one to four feet below the ice.
You should be using sharp, large hooks.
You will need a steal leader on the end of your fishing line to
catch Northen Pike. This is mainly because they are very
'toothy-creatures'.
There are some safety issues also when ice fishing for Northern
Pike. They have extremely sharp teeth. If you manage to land one -
their teeth can rip your hand up badly and their saliva contains
alot of germs and bacteria which can cause a bad infection.
The Northern Pike sometimes just tug at your line a little. You
should wait it out, don't act. You should also be very careful that
you are using the right line. Make sure that your drag is set
correctly.
