Darkhouse Spearing
Darkhouse spearing is a technique where you
send out a 'decoy' that you suspend just above the water. When
a fish comes up to get the decoy, you spear it.
To make sure you can spear the fish, you will need a large
hole and a pitch-black ice fishing house (that's where the term
'darkhouse' comes from).
When you first go into the darkhouse, your eyes won't be
used to the light. Don't worry though, it won't take long until
they've fully adjusted to the darkness.
When you're fully ready and your eyes are used to the
darkness - you must place your decoy down the hole, and have
your spear at the ready.
Darkhouse spearing is legal in many states, but before
attempting to darkhouse spear, you should always check if it's
legal in your area.
Most anglers use darkhouse spearing to
target northern pike. However, sometimes other fish species are
targeted - but that all depends on your states fishing
regulations.
